UNSUK CHIN Double Concerto
BRAHMS Piano Trio No .1 in B major, op. 8
ARENSKY String Quartet No. 2 in A minor, op. 35

Korean composer Unsuk Chin’s Double Concerto for piano and percussion was partly inspired by Balinese gamelan traditions, and uses a piano prepared with various metal objects to emphasize its percussive characteristics. Brahms’s Piano Trio No. 1 is both the first and last of his works in the genre, a piece he began in his 20s and revised 35 years later. The happy result is one of youthful exuberance paired with compositional and expressive maturity. Arensky wrote his Second String Quartet as a tribute to his close colleague Tchaikovsky who had recently died. He chose the unusual scoring of violin, viola, and two cellos to give the piece a somber, mournful sonority.

AMFS artist-faculty, all top musicians from renowned orchestras, opera companies, and conservatories, come together to play their favorite chamber music works. Always a joyful and creative 75 minutes of music-making.
